One by one, the guests arrive
The guests are coming throug
The open-hearted many
The broken-hearted few.[...]
And "Welcome, Welcome" cries a voice
"Let all my guests come in".

Is this a manga?
"[...] But the great Japanese authors made a squander more clamorous: they influenced a generation of drawer very much and, after them, it became difficult (and also a useless one) to continue to distinguish western and orients drawer, manga and cult comic strips, Italian, American, French, Spanish, Japanese authors. All people began to speak the same expressive language, to publish each others (indifferently in albums that are red from left to right, as we do, or from right on the left like in Japan), to travel and to live in one or the other side of the world, to converse without borders, putting comic strip, literature, music and cinema in touch with each others [... ] "

A War is a War is a War.
This story is set in the difficult context of a country that has just come off a long war. The country in question is an Italy reinvented and metahistoric (at the beginning of 1900 but also in the 50th ) and the conflict what we are speaking about is neither World War One neither World War Two. This is a fantasy situation but, we believe, not unrealistic. What we had in mind when we conceived the story, it was not this or that historical conflict, but the inauspicious consequences - known universal, in every time and in every latitude - of the war. We thought about that perverse entirety of responsibilities, interests, necessities, blind horror and stupidities that are the human wars. Of course, thinking that, we well had in our mind and in our eyes some recent tragedies, like the wars in ex-Yugoslavia or the Africans conflicts. They show us how much the distinction between civilians and soldiers is more and more labile.

MAIN CHARACTERS

Sergio (21 years old)
Before the war... There wasn't anything in his life before the war. Perhaps this is the reason why Sergio can't speak about the past. Soldier since he was 12, he has been growing with the war. There was nothing else in his life: the war has been his family, his school, his father and his brothers, for eight years. And now that war is ending...

Giņ (10)
The wars produce orphans, it is known. Exactly in an orphanage Giņ spent her childhood . But enough with the rigid sheets and the devout and strict nuns! Giņ escaped and for some time she has lived by her wits and whit pilferages, on the fringe of the world on the way of reconstruction. It is strange that Giņ will find a shelter just in the most loath and inaccessible person.

Angela (23)
After the hardships and the abuses of the war, Angela wants to recommence to living. She has a dream: to replace in operation the paternal furnace. She wants it more than every other thing, against all and all. Against the war, that carried her father to the ruin and the dead; against her village, that is hostile and don't want bury the old rancors; against new powerful and theirs underlings, who for a long time have been after the old furnace.

Mario (28)
When the war broked out, he was 18 and he was going to enter a university. Instead he was enlisted. He has fought for three years. Then, he diserted in order to escape abroad and to join the exiles. Now, in the chaos of reconstruction, between they who try to watch ahead and the veterans who can't live, between the Lords of the War and the great and small profiteers, he does not want to draw back.

Goran (30)
In a period when the belongings and the borders are such important, Goran the Coppersmith comes from no place and doesn't seek a place where to go. He travels through the cities and the countries by his little coach. He lives with the earth, following the clouds moving in the sky and the leaves blown by the wind. The war hit him in his soul and in his body; the cannonades devasted the forests. But the grass always returns, even if nothing will be as it was before.
